FM21 – Rossoblù Rise

If you’ve played Football Manager, than you know that a lot of thinking can go into choosing a new save. We make a mental note for every save idea we come across. We see them everywhere, in the football matches we watch, in the stories we hear and the history we learn. It can be overwhelming at times – wanting to be able to weave all the stories we can envision. We ultimately know we have to choose just a few ideas to chase.

This year I wanted to spend more time choosing a save than I did for FM20. I desired a save that had meaning and history within football, but also was a club that I connected to personally. This can often be hard when you live in Canada and the clubs are all over the world but in this case I was lucky enough to have travelled with my wife in 2016 to Italy and discovered a city that we still talk about every week.

A Confusing Horror Show; Weymouth 2036-37

The 2036 – 2037 season for Weymouth FC certainly did not go as expected. In fact, it went about as bad as it possibly could, which was a bit shocking if I’m being honest. If you’ve read the last blog post you already know that we had finished in the top 6, qualified for Champion’s League and strengthened the squad in preparation for the new season. So what happened?

Welcome to Weymouth FC in 2036

It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.

I was trying to think of a great way to start my first Football Manager blog post, and after a bit of pondering I think this quote is the perfect start. For those who aren’t familiar with my Football Manager obsession, it began in November 2018 and has ignited a passion for the game, and the sport itself. I was always a big fan of football but with the creation of the Canadian Premier League‘s Valour FC and this new game, I was absolutely hooked. Since I first picked up the game I have consumed as much football as I can, in person, on TV and in Football Manager. (I’m actually a season ticket holder for the Valour now.)
